Lemongrass, the Earth Element, and Your Health

Lemongrass: A Wonderful Herb for the Earth Element and Your Health

Lemongrass, a remarkable herb that has been an integral part of Eastern medicine for thousands of years, offers incredible benefits for the body, mind, and spirit. This aromatic herb has a citrusy flavor and a strong lemon fragrance and grows exceptionally well in tropical regions with warm, humid climates.

It is a staple ingredient in Eastern cuisine, particularly in Thai dishes, and is commonly used in teas, soups, and grain-based recipes.

In Eastern medicine, its aromatic-citrus qualities help move stagnant energy. Fragrant herbs like lemongrass are associated with the Earth Element, benefiting the corresponding energy meridians: the Stomach (yang) and the Spleen (yin).

The Earth Element is linked to empathy and, in excess, can manifest as worry or self-absorption. Over-empathy can turn into resentment, especially when personal boundaries are unclear.

Physical Benefits: Lemongrass strengthens the digestive system (Spleen and Stomach) and helps address issues like indigestion, gas, and bloating. It also aids in eliminating excess moisture from the body, making it beneficial for fluid retention.

Mental Benefits: Lemongrass helps clarify the mind and improve thought processes. According to the Five Elements system, the Spleen and Stomach meridians govern intellectual processes, so when they are affected by moisture, mental clarity can become clouded, leading to circular, repetitive thinking.

Spiritual Benefits: Healthy Spleen and Stomach meridians support integrity and help us live in alignment with our true selves.
