Moisture & Fennel

Updated: Aug 16, 2025

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the pattern known as moisture can manifest in the body in several ways, including a feeling of fullness, bloating, gas, belching, and heaviness.

One herb that works exceptionally well to address moisture in the body is fennel. Its warming nature helps to dry excess moisture. Fennel can be prepared as a tea using either fresh leaves or seeds. It can also be added to salads and fruit smoothies.

Although this remedy is sometimes overlooked due to the plant’s limited availability, fennel seeds—commonly found in supermarkets under the name “fennel”—are an excellent alternative. Fennel primarily benefits the Spleen meridian, which is often the most affected by excess moisture in the body.
